Volta de la Mel

Volta de la Mel is a covered corner of the main town square in La Bisbal d’Empordà that appeared there by accident in the 18th century. The arched alleyways of the nearby streets intersected in one spot, forming a roof that became immediately popular with local vendors and soon turned into its own square. The spot was especially frequented by sellers of honey, hence its name — mel means “honey” in Catalan.
