Chestnut Fair

Chestnut Fair
November 1, Begur

In anticipation of All Saints’ Day, mobile grills baking chestnuts and sweet potato appear on squares and streets of every town and village in Catalonia.

Passersby have an option of pairing these seasonal treats with the local dessert wine made from the Moscatel grape.

Depending on the locale, the event is called either castañada (in Spanish) or castanyada (in Catalan) emphasising the cooking process or castañera / castanyera focusing on the role of the cook.

Castanyada in Begur usually lasts for 4 to 5 days, ending on All Saints’ Day.
