The Americanos Fair

The Americanos Fair
June 14 - June 16, Lloret de Mar

For one hot summer weekend, the central promenade in Lloret de Mar takes the willing crowds back in time to enjoy the rhythms of Latin American dancing, drinking, singing, and shopping — all in order to celebrate the historical and cultural significance of the Indianos’ presence on the Costa Brava.

The Indianos are a distinct demographical group of the 19th-century emigrants who had left the Spanish shores to make their fortunes overseas, mainly in Cuba, and then returned to Europe — wealthy, with means to influence their hometowns’ cultural and social scenes and transform the local architectural landscape by building mansions in distinct eclectic styles.

In Lloret de Mar, the annual fair to celebrate the local Indianos takes place in mid-June, called La Fira dels Americanos, or the Americanos Fair. It is marked by energetic concerts and Latin dance lessons, havaneres performances and parades, cocktails and rom cremat tastings, Indianos-themed guided walks, spectacles for children, artisanal goods market shopping, and so much more.
