The Beaches and The Bays of Vies Braves

The cove of Aigua Dolça (Cala Aigua Dolça) is a small beach located just a minute’s walk away from the main beach of Tamariu in the central part of the Costa Brava coast.

The Aigua Dolça cove is one of the stops on the map of Vies Braves, a sea swimming lane network created in the Costa Brava in 2014. The cove is 1.2 km away by sea from Cala Aigua Xèlida.

This tiny, hidden yet exceedingly lovely cove of Aigua Xèlida (Cala Aigua Xèlida) is located just by Tamariu, in one of its urbanizations of the same name, in the central part of Costa Brava between Palafrugell and Begur. The sand beach attracts much smaller crowds even at the height of the summer season—most vacationers prefer to sunbathe and swim in Tamariu proper.

The Aigua Xèlida cove is the starting point for one of the Vies Braves sea swimming routes that were created in the Costa Brava in 2014. From here, you can swim to the cove Aigua Dolça.

Directions: Navigation signs towards the cove start appearing on Carrer Enric Morera in Tamariu, so you can enter Carrer Enric Morera, Palafrugell into your GPS navigator.

The Canadell beach (Platja Canadell) is a sand beach wedged between the cliff of La Trona in the south and the cape separating Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc in the north. The beach is 200 m long and 27 m wide.

The residential area next to the beach is noted on the list of the cultural heritage objects of Catalonia—most of the buildings here are fishing huts built back in the 18th century. In the late 19th century, wealthy Catalans started erecting lush summer residences next to simple accommodations of fisherfolk. One of the residences hosted the summer stay of the famous Spanish writer Josep Pla, who was born in Palafrugell.

The beach of Fenals (Platja de Fenals) is the second largest beach in Lloret de Mar, surpassed only by the main city beach in the number of visitors. The beach of Fenals is a sand beach that’s 725 m long and 45 m wide. It is equipped with outdoor showers, parasol and hammock rentals, surrounded by cafés and restaurants. Platja Fenals a favourite among families visiting the central part of the Costa Brava coast.

The beach is also the starting point for two open water swimming lanes within the Vies Braves network that’s been growing here since 2014. From Platja de Fenals, swim towards Platja Santa Cristina to the south or to the city beach of Lloret de Mar in the north.

Residents of Pals do not have direct sea access, but the Pals municipality includes a resort town Platja de Pals, whose name is easily translated as “the Beach of Pals”. This sandy beach is one of the longest on the Costa Brava, whose length exceeds two kilometres.

A 1.5 km long sea swimming route, part of the Vies Braves network, runs along the beach of Pals (Platja Gran de Pals).
